My boys

I love having family birthday parties. I especially love it right now as I have a lot of say of what the theme of the party will be and can plan a fun theme to make a fun cake!!!My youngest son turned 2 and the "Hungry Caterpillar - by Eric Carle" was the theme of his birthday. I can't take full credit for all of the fun little food items we were able to have (as there are many smart Mommies out there who have done this before me and my thanks goes out to them). But the cake definitely was a super fun thing to decorate! We mainly did this theme because our little caterpillar's favourite words to say are "I'm still hungry". And it is true, he is ALWAYS hungry. Such fun! Here are a few shots from his party.

Then my eldest son turned 4 in January. I can't believe he is 4 already! How time flies! But he decided a while back that he wanted a rocket ship birthday cake... with fire. I think he actually wanted it to blast off, which was not within my realm of cake decorating, but the fire I could probably do. We ended up sticking sparklers out the back and he loved it!!! We had a blast at his party (hehe)! The moon rock hunt was probably more of a hit then anything. Again, thanks to all those Mommies who have these great party ideas!!

Here is also a picture from our biggest boy's birthday (Daddy). We made him a shark eating a Hebrew Bible cake. Seems silly, but it is quite significant. We have moved down to Florida for him to pursue his Seminary education, so that is where the Hebrew Bible comes in. And then the shark, just because we are in Florida.... and there are sharks here. It was fun. Don't really hope to see one of these anytime while I'm down here, but it was fun to have a shark "eating the Word of God". I hope we all would devour the Bible as this shark is. It sometimes seems like it is the other way around with the Word of God biting into us, but what an amazing blessing it is to have the written word of God right in our hands! God is so good to us.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures, until next time, many blessings!

Back at it

Different climate, different lifestyle, different home, different country, same God, same family, same love for baking!
I am back at it, picking up, very slowly, where I left off about a year or two ago. Sorry for those of you who have wanted more updates, this last season of our

life has been incredibly hectic and doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon!
Since the time I have last wrote on here, we have packed up our family and headed south, all the way from southern Ontario to south Florida!! It is lovely down here. Having lived down here during the hot summer months for 3 consecutive years during my husband's baseball career, we had become accustomed to the heat, but it has been such a treat to be here in the winter! No worries of scraping the driveway, sludging through slush in the springtime, or slipping on ice. You just leave the windows open and let the sea-breeze blow. It has kinda been a dream. Sorry to all of you northern folk reading this. Just come for a visit, you are welcome anytime!!

As for the baking, I have had a few requests here and there. This first one was for a 1st birthday and also a 50th all in one!! What fun! They just wante
d a simple smash cake for the little boy and cake pops for their guests. Strawberry, orange and chocolate were the flavors. I always love doing the cake pops! Always so cute and fun!
Well enjoy these new posts as I slowly get them up!

Birthdays!

Here is a post of some of my recent kiddo birthday cakes.

This "Baby Miss Piggy" was for a special little girl's 1st birthday. I was so happy with how she turned out!! This is probably one of my favourite cakes that I have had to do... I probably say that a lot, but it is right up there. Although it took a lot of hours and work, I was so happy with the outcome! Her sweet little curls, right down to the pearls. This piggy had class!

I hope they enjoyed her as much as I enjoyed creating her.

Now this cake, not quite as exciting as the previous one, unless you are a little 3 year old boy who LOVES "Cars" the movie. He kept changing his mind each day about what cake he wanted, but when it came down to it, he wanted a "Doc racetrack cake". So that is what we did. He just wanted to race the cars around and around the cake. So overall it was a success!

Woodland Baby Shower

I was asked by a good friend of mine to do these sweet little cupcakes for her sister-in-law's baby shower. She gave me the theme of "woodlands" so I ran with it. Given more time and a bigger budget, I would have done more, but I wanted to make these little cupcakes cute and relevant.

Working with large sized whoppers, I carved out little owls, giving them sunflower seed beaks and using sprinkles for feet. Then using mini marshmellows and chocolate wafers I made little mushrooms to top the other cupcakes. Keeping with the "baby boy" theme, the rest were baby blue. I always love decorating projects like this one. Congrats on the new baby boy! Babies are such wonderful gifts from God.

Cupcake fun!

Sometimes you just have to bake for youself.... or eat the extras! So we decided to take advantage of this! We had some fun with a book lent to us called "Hello Cupcake". We couldn't resist the cute little sunflowers, especially since we had all the ingredients on hand... always an oreo in our cupboard!! The strawberry cupcakes, being decorated by the little hands, were so yummy as well. This is not a regular flavour that I bake, but we have enjoyed the warm colour and sweet taste of these pretty little cupcakes! (oh and doing the "sprinkle, sprinkles" is the best part of all)!

It also wouldn't be a complete post without some cupcakes for special occations! Since I am soo far behind in my postings, I'm going to group a bunch of my cupcake fun together. I did a few weddings this summer and one of them had these lovely red velvet cupcakes. This sultry colour just screams love and romance and I think that is why it is such a popular flavour for weddings. The bride for this wedding also had gone online and purchased a beautiful cupcake stand. It made for great pictures and I took advantage of it! I hope she had a lovely day and a wonderful life ahead of her with her new husband.

Then this final wedding was done in the summer of 2010 as well. This bride decided to go with some fun flavour choices! (which I love doing!!) She chose a chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream, oreo cupcakes with vanilla buttercream and peanut butter cupcakes with vanilla buttercream. Yum!! I think my favourite of the bunch is peanut butter, but I have a weakness for peanut butter.... then again, I also have a weakness for oreos... ok I can't make the decision, but either way, they were totally sweet!

Thanks for allowing me to use some creativity! I think many customers just assume you have to go plain vanilla or chocolate, when there are so many possibilities out there. Key lime pie cupcakes, rolo cupcakes, chocolate mint cupcakes, creamsicle.... they are endless! Please, don't be afraid to ask about different flavours. Or if you have a favourite treat, just ask if it can be done. I will be honest with you, and I'm always up to the challenge. Ok, now that I'm drooling, I think it's off to bed, to have some sweet dreams. Goodnight!

Purple

The theme colour for weddings this summer was purple!
Every wedding that I did this summer seemed to have the colour purple as one of their accent colours. This wedding reception hall was decorated absolutely beautifully! The purples all tied in together as well as the sweets!
I was asked to do cookies for favours on the tables and a cake truffle cake for dessert. The cookies were sugar cookie wedding dresses and cakes. The truffles were raspberry, chocolate and vanilla. I was sooo happy with how it turned out, and I'm glad the couple enjoyed them as well!

Wedding season!

Wedding season has officially begun here. Well it began a while ago, I just have been too busy to post anything on here!
My first wedding in May was an order for Mini-cinnamon buns. After experimenting with different recipes, we found a winner. And then baking them fresh that morning, and baking 100 over again, the cake made it to the reception with time to spare.
Thank you to the bride and groom for giving me the opportunity to do something creative and different for their wedding. It was fun to do something out of the ordinary.
